Floating Bottle Holder Template Generator

Robert Eisele

Draw a curved wooden bottle holder and download a full-size SVG cutting template. The generator combines an arc with a temporary drill mount on its left side. Start with the supplied dimensions, move the arc tips or the mount in the preview, and choose a rounded ring profile or a pointed crescent.

Set the Contour

The default outer diameter is 380 mm, with a 12 mm ring thickness and arc endpoints at 168 and 290 degrees. Angles increase counterclockwise: zero points right and 90 degrees points up. The vertical mount position is measured from the circle center, with positive values pointing down. Drag the turquoise endpoints to adjust the arc, or the amber handle and mount area to move the drill mount. Hold Shift to snap angles to 5-degree steps and the mount position to 5 mm.

The rounded ring uses concentric inner and outer circles, joined by semicircular end caps. Its thickness is constant along the arc. A pointed crescent instead uses a larger, offset inner circle that intersects the outer circle at both endpoints. The two arcs meet at sharp tips, and the width between them varies along the profile. Increasing the inner circle diameter makes the crescent wider at its middle. This option limits the arc span to less than 180 degrees so the selected inner arc stays within the outer circle.

Use the Drill Mount

The mount is extra material for clamping while drilling; remove it afterward along the uninterrupted outer arc. Its height, short side length, and vertical position can be adjusted independently. The guide offset is measured downward from the mount's top edge. The bore diameter is the total spacing between the two outer dashed guides; the third line marks their center. Setting the bore diameter to zero leaves a single center guide.

The generator adjusts dimensions at geometric limits so the mount stays connected to the arc and the rounded tips do not overlap. A guide that does not intersect the inner circle is omitted. The preview highlights the temporary mount, while exports contain an unfilled cutting contour and dashed guides rather than colored handles.

Print at Actual Size

The SVG raw download contains the complete, unrotated contour in a document sized to its bounds. It does not clip the path to A4 or apply a rotation or scale transformation. The SVG A4 fitted download rotates the contour to its best orientation and centers it on a 210 by 297 mm page. Material extending beyond that page is clipped, not scaled down. Both exports use physical millimeter dimensions: one SVG coordinate unit is one millimeter.

The Export Preview tab shows either the full raw contour or its rotated A4 placement. In A4 mode, white is the page, the dashed frame is the selected print margin, and the pale contour outside the page shows clipped overhangs. Optimal rotation minimizes the largest relative overflow against the available page width and height; it does not guarantee that every design fits A4. The print margin affects this rotation search, not the physical scale or the raw SVG download.

Print at 100% or actual size, with fit-to-page disabled. Check a known dimension with a ruler before cutting. A design larger than A4 needs a larger sheet or tiled printing from an SVG-capable application. Thin crescent tips are more fragile than rounded ends, especially across the wood grain.

Check the Balance

The template defines the two-dimensional contour and drilling guides, not a guaranteed load-bearing design. The actual floating effect depends on the bottle's mass, insertion depth, bore angle, material thickness, and contact with the supporting surface. Prototype the holder with the intended bottle and check its balance and strength before trusting a finished piece.
